Accounting students from the College of Business at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will assist low income families in the Coastal Bend prepare their tax returns throughout the tax season as part of the Internal Revenue Service’s Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.click here for more information.
Ms Yvonne Hein, a former BBA student, has been hired as part-time secretary for the College of Business.
Ms. Shay Lee has been promoted to Senior Administrative Assistant. She acquired the position after Ellen Rossi, our former Senior Administrative Assistant, retired late last year.
Dr. Karen Middleton' Leadership & Managerial Effectiveness class raised $6,792.90 to help foster children. The money allowed 200 gift boxes to be filled as well as a $99 skateboard, and a $200 bowling party for 20 kids at Saratoga Lanes. The gifts will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 6 to Foster Angels of South Texas. To read more on the story, click here.

One of business Professors, Dr. Amir Hormozi, offers dance lessons through the university Dance Club which meets every Thursday evening. He has offered dance lessons since 2003. His passions for dance started at age 12 when he learned to cha cha and tango. Now he offer more than 25 different dance styles including salsa, rumba, and Argentina tango. Every year he attends the Brigham Young University Dance camp. He is the board member of the Revelaires Dance Club. Dr. Hormozi also plays table tennis in his spare time. He won 2 Senior Olympic Gold Medals in 2001 and 2005 in table tennis. (Click here to see his interview.) He has more than 25 years' experience in training and implementation of manufacturing planning and control systems. Dr. Hormozi has served as chair of the National Remanufacturing Group of APICS, program chair for INFORMS, track chair for National Decision Sciences Institute, and Ph.D. dissertation consortium Chair for Production Operations Society. One of our alumni students, Curtis Rock, talks about the importance of alumni support to the University. Curtis Rock earned his BBA in Management Information Systems from the College of Business in 2004. He and his wife co-chair the Momentum Capital Campaign. Rock was named the 2010 Corpus Christi 40 under 40 "Person of the Year." He is a graduate of the Leadership Corpus Christi XXXIII and serves as chairman of the Leadership Corpus Christi XL. In 2006 the city council appointed him the Transportation Advisory Council (TAC) which led him the become TAC chairman in 2009. He Is the Business Development Manager for Rock Engineering and Testing Laboratory. Also, during his time at the University, Rock was a founding father of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He owns Boombox Brothers DJs and is in the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi National Alumni Board. Rock is also a Past President of the Corpus Christi Area Alumni Club. One of our students, Onur Guler who is from Turkey, has been chosen as an Outstanding Islander. We would like to congratulate him. Onur Guler has been recognized for bringing awareness about Turkish culture on the campus. He has been teaching about Turkish culture, history and language to give people a more accurate image of Turkey. In these times of financial uncertainty, Dr. Vinod Venkiteshwaran is stressing to his students that they need to be informed of how monetary systems work and how their lives can be affected by what's happening in today's financial markets. He arrived at the Island university in fall 2009 after serving as a visiting assistant professor at Ohio University. One of his papers on activist shareholders was published this year in Morgan Stanley's Journal of Applied Corporate Finance, the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance and was also cited in several Reuters news articles bringing international recognition to the Island University. He is also a member of the International Education Advisory Council, where he actively participates to evaluate international student issues and learning issues. One of our students is a great example of a young business professional leader. He received his BBA in Finance in 2007 and an MBA with a concentration in International Business and is now pursuing his Master of Accountancy at the University and is a relationship manager for Frost Bank where he aspires to become regional president for the Corpus Christi market within the next 25 years. The Coastal Bend Business
Innovation Center presented the second "Innovation Center Awards"
at its June 1 advisory board meeting. The awards recognize extraordinary
effort and contribution in the goals of the Innovation Center
by faculty, students and clients.
Dr. W. Scott Sherman was recognized
as an Outstanding Islander. He was awarded the College of
Business Teaching Excellence Award, the Faculty Senate University
Teaching Excellence Award, and three Texas A&M University
System Student Recognition Awards for Teaching Excellence.
